DO YOU TAKE ANY PRESCRIBED MEDICATION? New laws might affect you.

Friday, April 17th, 2015

From the beginning of March 2015, a new law was introduced to try to combat the problems of drivers being under the influence of illegal drugs. This also covers some prescribed drugs.
If a driver is found guilty of breaking this law the consequences are severe:
• £5,000 fine
• automatic 12 month driving ban
• a maximum six-month jail sentence
and
• a criminal record
However, if you are taking your medicine as directed and your driving is not impaired then you are not breaking the law, so
1. Check whether what you are taking is affected by the new legislation. This can be found in the Summary of Product Characteristics provided with your medicine.
2. Always follow the instructions given by your doctor/pharmacist or printed in the accompanying leaflet, about when and how to take your medication.
3. Keep proof of any prescribed medication with you in the event you are stopped by the police.
It is your responsibility to consider whether your driving might or might not be impaired, but if it isn’t and you are taking a drug lawfully after medical advice, the new law does include a medicinal defence.

Tips To Help You Keep Safe When Driving

Tuesday, February 17th, 2015

Even though the birds are starting to sing again and the bulbs are starting to show giving us the feeling that spring is in the air we are still suffering from severe frosts and icy mornings.
With this in mind it is still useful to take some simple precautions with your vehicle when out and about.

* Is your vehicle roadworthy for the conditions – check tyres, windscreen washers and wipers, lights, petrol and heater.
* In case of breakdown, carry warm clothing, a blanket and if on a long journey a flask containing a hot drink.
* Drive according to conditions – keep your speed down, avoid harsh acceleration or braking especially in icy conditions keep a greater distance between you and the vehicle in front.
* Fog lamps should only be used in fog or falling snow, don’t blind oncoming traffic by using them in normal conditions.
* Plan routes to use major roads which are more likely to have been cleared of snow and ice and gritted.

Farndon Colts Represent Newark in Ireland

Friday, April 25th, 2014

Unfortunately, the Colts lost 3-1 but it was a glorious game played on a fabulous pitch in surprisingly good weather.  The team they were up against Westport United FC who operate as Under 12s to Under 15s. In Ireland each town has just one club which attracts the best talent.  As a result, the Colts were up against an older, more experienced team more akin to a Nottinghamshire select XI, so they should be very proud of the result and of the quality of football played by all the boys.

The experience helped the boys to bond as an even stronger team, and it was partially responsible for our Division 1 League Cup final win on Easter Monday after their return to Newark.
MDS Services are happy to be one of the sponsors enabling the team to visit Westport and take part in the Broddie Gartland Trophy.  We wish them all all the best for the future, and good luck  next year when the challenge for the Broddie Gartland Trophy will take place in Newark.
